So Who The Hell Are RC Genk?

When Chelsea drew RC Genk in the Champions League group stages you would be forgiven for asking who are RC Genk?
Well FamousCFC.com have been doing research to tell you all about RC Genk.
RC Genk
Formed relatively recently in the football world (1988)Racing Genk are the Belgian League champions and overcame FK Partizan and Maccabi Haifa to qualify for the Champions League group stages for the second time in their history.
They qualified for the Champions League group stages by defeating Maccabi Haifa in a dramatic penalty shootout in the final qualifying round with goalkeeper László Köteles the hero.
Managed by former Dutch international Mario Been the Belgian champions have struggled in the group so far picking up just one point in three games.
For the away leg Chelsea will travel to the Cristal Arena, which is a small venue holding only 24,000 fans which is the equivalent to the average Championship ground.
This means we will only have an allocation of just over 1,000 for the trip a great disappointment to the army of CFC fans wanting to make the trip to Belgium.

The Chelsea Week Ahead – W/C 31st October 2011
After defeat against Arsenal on Saturday it is important that the players and the club learn the lessons of defeat but pick themselves up and look forwards to a brand new week.
Tuesday 1st November 7.45pm – RC Genk v Chelsea

After defeating Genk comfortably at Stamford Bridge around 1,000 Chelsea fans will make the trip to Belgium where a victory will give us a foot in the knock out stages.
I would expect a level of rotation by Andre Villas Boas with Romelu Lukaku, Oriol Romeu and Josh McEachran likely to be desperate to get the eye of the manager in training this week.
Saturday 5th November 3pm – Blackburn Rovers v Chelsea

Blackburn may be struggling at the bottom of the league but we should be in no doubt that the trip to Ewood Park will be difficult.
This game will be very important as we need to gain some momentum before the game against Liverpool and put our league season back on track after two successive defeats.

Up and Down Week For Petr Cech
Petr Cech had an up and down week between the posts this week, with a man of the match performance against Everton in midweek and a horror show against Arsenal.
Carling Cup v Everton (Hero)
He was the hero in midweek in the Carling Cup making a string of saves including one from a penalty to win the game.
Starting from the bench he was expecting to have a quiet night in Merseyside, however when Ross Turnbull was sent off he was sent immediately into the action.
He arrived on the scene facing a penalty which he went on to save and the rebound.
This was Petr Cech at his finest.
Chelsea v Arsenal (Villian)
The game against Arsenal was a totally different story things were different although he dropped no outright clangers he could be seen as partly responsible.
He was beaten a total of five times during the game which was a painful loss for us, he can be seen as partially responsible for three of these goals.
He was beaten at his near post twice which is disappointing for a keeper of his calible and was only able to palm a Van Persie effort that was pretty much straight at him into the corner of the goal.
Conclusion
This was certainly one of his poorest performances in a long time having returned to his best form in the last 12-18 months.
Therefore please do not interpret this as an attack on Petr Cech as I support him fully and expect him to be back to his best against Genk and Blackburn.

Poor Defending and The Offside Trap Conundrum
With eight goals and the lead changing hands four times the game against Arsenal was thrilling for the neutral and Gunners fans.
For Chelsea fans this was painful, we scored three well worked goals and at Stamford Bridge this should always be enough to secure three points.
To concede five at home is unthinkable and it highlighted some weaknesses that need to be addressed if we are to challenge for the title this season.
The Broken Offside Trap

One time when the offside trap worked
On Saturday we kept a high line playing the offside trap, on many occasions it worked perfectly with Walcott and Gervinho caught offside, it is however a high risk strategy and not infallible.
Arsenal broke the trap on a number of occasions, with devastating effect, with at least two of the goals conceded leaving defenders waving their arms desperately in the air.
I have never been a fan of a high defensive line and with John Terry and his potential partners lacking pace, it is a dangerous game to play against the top sides in the game.
Back to the drawing board please Mr Villas Boas.
