Chelsea 2011 Transfer Coup – Torres and Luiz Sign
Well it has been a nervous 24 hours or so as the liklihood of both deals were both off and back on again but it is official.
Chelsea have signed Fernando Torres and David Luiz in the January 2011 transfer window, in what has been the most exciting transfer window for Chelsea fans since the 2004 close season when Abramovich first opened his wallet.
So what do you think of our transfer activity in this window? Have we overpaid and does it matter?
Transfer Window Summary
In
Fernando Torres (Liverpool) – £50m
David Luiz (Benfica) - £21m + Nemanja Matic
Both players will be available for this weekend’s fixture which in poetic justice is against Liverpool no less should be some good territory to wind up the Scousers at the Bridge on Sunday!
Out
Jacob Mellis (Barnsley) – Loan
Daniel Sturridge (Bolton) – Loan
A note on Daniel Sturridge’s loan a good move for all I think do you agree?

Will Torres, Cahill or Luiz Sign For Chelsea Before Deadline?
The transfer window is now reaching its peak and Chelsea are right at the heart of most of the stories emanating from the manure factory that is the football rumour mill.
It seems that our poor run of form in November and December has spurred the club into action in the transfer market. Meaning that the cheque book is now open and the club is looking to make some superstar signings, to replace perceived gaps in the squad and bring a new generation of talent to the Bridge.
The main stories are that Chelsea are trying to make two gigantic signings before the window slams shut.
I am not sure that now is the right time to be buying as we are going to get ripped off by clubs seeking to hold us to ransom.
David Luiz
A week ago this rumour was red hot with us apparently right on the tail of Benfica’s versatile defender, however having had our earlier bids rejecting it is looking doubtful that we will match the Portugeuse club’s valuation in time.
It seems that this bid was born out of a fear for the long term fitness of John Terry and a bid to start looking to the future and buy the future generation of talent at the club.
Gary Cahill
With the deal for David Luiz in the balance, maybe we will be forced to look closer to home and pay the home grown player premium and sign Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
Cahill is a player I like alot however I hope that we do not buy in desperation when we have enough defensive options to wait for the summer to make further acquisitions.
Fernando Torres
Roman Abramovich has often believed to covet Fernando Torres and if the press is to be believed the last few weeks have prompted Abramovich to take action. It has been widely reported to have tabled a fresh set of bids with Liverpool refusing to part with their prised asset for anything less than a king’s ransom.
Torres is a fantastic player but his injury record is not the greatest, I dont think that £50m is a figure that can be justified for any player no matter how much he catches the eye, maybe a more realistic deal can be made in the summer but for now I hope we fail in this bid.

Personally I think that Chelsea should not sign anyone in this window, although fresh faces will be required in the next 18 months now is not the time to buy, the price will simply never be right and overpaying will not give us a chance to build for the future the right way.

Turning the corner! The Chelsea Football FanCast #145
Chidge and the boys let out a loud hallelujah, with our first away win since 30th October against Bolton. Also on the show the weekly ‘Fannies’, ‘Dear Mart’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, ‘You’re on CFFC’ and classic song from the terraces or three!
The boys discuss Drogba’s wonder goal, Cech’s wonder save, and an all round good display by the Chels, as they seem to have collectively got their ‘mojo’ back. Drogba, Cech, Anelka and Essien all shine as we get a vital win which hopefully puts us back on track for the season. Also good to see ‘Ray-Mears’ get his first Chelsea goal, with an appropriately ‘Proper Chels’ celebration.
As well as discussing the key points from the game, we award our Man and Chant of the Match and Guinness and Celery moments from the Bolton game, and we’ll also be looking back to the Yoof sides win against The Baby Arse last week. Most of us were there in front row seats no less!
After that we’ll be belting out another classic song from the Chelsea terraces in ‘We’re out to show the world the way to sing’. This week a uniquely Chelsea song, usually sung when we’re happy, drunk or both!
We’ve also got our very popular new slot “Don’t Look Back in Anger” where we look back with fond memories on another Chelsea player from the past – this week, Mario Stanic.
And to wrap things up Dr Mart will be answering your questions in Dear Mart and we’ll be reading out the best posts of the week in You’re on CFFC.
